Ontario Centres of Excellence

Ontario Centres of Excellence

Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) drives the development of Ontario’s economy by helping create new jobs, products, services, technologies and businesses. Our comprehensive program suite covers almost all stages of business development and career advancement.

In partnership with industry, OCE co-invests to commercialize innovation originating in the province’s publicly funded colleges, universities and research hospitals. We also support and invest in early-stage projects, where the probability of commercial success and potential total return on innovation are substantial. Another expanding focus for OCE is the development of the next generation of innovators through our entrepreneurship fellowships and programs for students and youth across Ontario.

Tower Labs

Tower Labs

TowerLabs was founded by Tridel and the MaRS Discovery District.

As Canada's largest builder of green condominiums, Tridel is on the leading edge of a transformation of the built environment. Since 2006, the company has initiated development of approximately 8.5 million square feet of new construction in 22 highrise communities pursuing certification by the LEED green building rating system. On average, Tridel communities reduce electricity by approximately 30% and natural gas consumption by almost 45%. This results in the elimination of over 12,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases each year, and a substantial energy cost savings for condominium owners. At the same time, Tridel has cut water consumption by at least one-third and specifies low-emitting finishes and innovative ventilation solutions to ensure a healthy indoor environment.
