City of Hamilton, Ontario
With 65 waterfalls in its boundaries, the City of Hamilton, Ontario, is known locally as the “City of Waterfalls.” The city’s rich cultural heritage is authentically preserved and displayed in museums including Dundurn Castle, Battlefield House Museum and park and the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.
The first project with Illumient was to install 40 solar powered lights in a park in the Niagara Escarpment, which cuts through the middle of the city, providing outstanding vistas, trails, and waterfalls. As the land is limestone, it would not have been conducive to the trenching and cabling that would have been required to run electric power cables. In addition, the City wanted to reduce the growing burden of utility costs from electric streetlights. With the new Illumient lights residents can enjoy the park area throughout the year and later into the evening.
